On 4 March 2022, the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) on behalf of the German Federal Government, Gasunie and RWE signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the joint construction of a terminal for importing LNG at the Brunsbüttel site. KfW will take a 50% share in the LNG terminal through a financial contribution on behalf of the German government. Gasunie LNG Holding B.V. and RWE will hold shares of 40% and 10% respectively. Gasunie will be the operator of the LNG terminal. The company’s aim is to build, own and operate a multifunctional LNG terminal in Brunsbuettel. The plant will contribute to the diversification of energy/gas supply in Germany and to the introduction of LNG as a clean, alternative marine and Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) fuel, thus reducing the transport sector’s impact on the environment.
The company was founded in 2018. The head office of German LNG Terminal is based in Brunsbuettel, Germany.
